Use these resources to learn more about alcohol extraction:
Botanical Essential Oil
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups botanicals (such as mint), preferably dried, whole plant or leaves only
- 1 cup food-grade grain alcohol 190 proof
Directions:
Freeze alcohol overnight, and plant material for 5+ hours.
Mix mint and alcohol and crush/agitate for 2-5 minutes. Strain alcohol away from plant through a coffee filter or strainer into the reservoir. Place reservoir in Source. Seal vacuum, turn on Source. Stop the Source when the final volume reaches about 1/10th of the original volume in the reservoir. Then let the mint sit in the reservoir until it is reduced further.
Yield: approx 1-2 Tbs pure concentrate. Source time: approximately 2 hours.
Home Brew Flavorings

Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups Fine oak chips or other flavoring
- 1 ½ cup food-grade grain alcohol, such as Everclear 190 proof
Directions:
Soak time: overnight (4-10 hours)
Use a large jar rather than a blender for preparation. Allow to stand overnight at room temperature. Shake or mix vigorously before filtering. Stop the Source when the final volume reaches about 1/10th of the original volume in the reservoir. Remove the reservoir when cool and allow it to air out for 2-4 hours before storage.
Yield: approx 1-2 teaspoons of concentrate oil, but retaining some alcohol in the concentrate is acceptable. Source Time: 2-4 hours.
