In preparation to extract, freeze alcohol for 24-48 hours, and freeze plant material for 5 or more hours.
Add 1/2 to 2 oz of plant material to a glass container. Just barely cover it with the frozen alcohol. Crush, agitate, or grind the plant material with the alcohol for 2-5 minutes.
Strain the botanical "tea" into the reservoir cup.
Your "tea" should be clear.
Screw the reservoir cup into the Source.
Seal the vacuum, turn on the Source and set the time.
When the alcohol has separated from the essential oil, turn off the Source. You can reuse the alcohol from the collector for your next extraction.
Loosen the vacuum, remove the top.
Pour your concentrate into a container. If there are any botanical remnants, strain them from the final concentrate. If there is alcohol remaining, leave the container open so the alcohol will completely evaporate.
Store your essential oils and concentrates in UV protected glass (amber glass) for long-term storage, or keep out of sunlight.
